How to Spot Fake Crypto Job Offers Before You Apply
· 7 min read
Crypto hiring attracts scammers. Here are the patterns to watch for, a step-by-step way to verify a role and a checklist to run before you share anything.

Why crypto job searches attract scams
Crypto teams are often remote, small and active on X, Telegram and Discord. That makes it easy for someone to pose as a recruiter or a founder. The goal of a fake offer is usually one of three things: your money, your wallet, or your identity documents.
Common warning signs
- You are asked to pay for training, equipment, a visa or a "starter deposit". Real employers do not charge applicants.
- A test task asks you to connect a wallet, sign a transaction or run unknown code on your own machine.
- The offer arrives unprompted in a DM with a high salary and no interview.
- The recruiter's email domain does not match the company website, or uses a free mail service.
- The company has no careers page listing the role, and the official X account never mentions hiring.
- Pressure to move fast - "decide today", "slots are limited".
How to verify a role in five steps
- Find the company's official website from its verified X account, not from the link in the message.
- Open the careers page on that website and confirm the same role is listed there.
- Check that anyone contacting you is publicly connected to the company (team page, X bio, LinkedIn).
- Never sign transactions or install software as part of hiring. Use a fresh browser profile with no wallet for test tasks.
- Share ID documents only after a written offer from a verified company address.
Every listing on wwshemi jobs comes from an employer's own careers page or official account, and job-board reposts are dropped automatically. You still should run the checks above before sharing personal data. Our guide on researching a crypto company goes deeper on vetting the employer itself.
Checklist before you apply
- The role appears on the company's own careers page.
- The contact uses the company's domain.
- No payment, wallet connection or code execution is requested.
- You had at least one live interview with a real team member.
- The offer is in writing before any documents are shared.
